Yep….it always amazes me when I see people riding without a bike helmet. My favorite is when I see parents riding without a helmet but since the law requires, they make their kids wear one. Not a very good role model if you ask me. As coach Mike Kyle says, “No helmet….no ride.”
According to the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute, wearing a proper fitting, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) certified helmet could prevent 85 percent of cyclists’ head injuries. I’m not sure about you but I like those odds.
And here’s really good news, as long as it meets the standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, that lower cost helmet is just as safe as the more expensive versions. Just look for a CPSC sticker inside the helmet and you’re good to go! Oh and never forget, helmets are SINGLE USE. Meaning, after a bad crash, you’ll need to purchase a new helmet even if you think its ok.
Finally, helmet straps often loosen, so give it a quick check before every ride. Have Fun!!
